Cross of Soil

posted Feb 19, 2018, 12:03 PM by Bohernabreena Parish News   [ updated Feb 19, 2018, 12:04 PM ]

In St Anne's church, we will mark Lent this year with a cross-shaped structure in front of the altar which everyone is invited to add a cupful of soil, clay or sand, from a place which has some special association for them - home, a field, a graveside or other place. The children preparing for their first communion processed up carrying soil today, but this is an activity for everyone to participate in. Pop in any time the church is open to add your soil, to contribute your piece in our cross-shape that makes up our parish community this Lent.

We remember our community over the last 150 years and how materials from many local places were used in the building of the church. Whether you are a regular or drop in occasionally, please bring a little soil when you can visit.

The Joy of Love sessions on the family, Tuesday 13th February
This six-session parish conversation on the family explores key messages in Pope Francis' "The Joy of Love". Each session will be stand-alone and have it's own local facilitators. There will be a welcome and introduction, a couple of video presentations and discussion around these. The first evening will centre around "The reality of family life today", and will last about 90 minutes. There'll be a cup of tea served afterwards and a chance to chat. The dates for all 6 sessions are 13th February, 27th February, 13th March, 27th March, 10th April, 24th April - that's Tuesdays fortnightly starting from Tuesday 13th February. All sessions are in Roseanna Hall, behind St Anne's church, and we invite all from Holy Rosary, St Martins and St Anne's communities to attend.

St Anne's 150th anniversary

posted Jan 15, 2018, 11:42 PM by Bohernabreena Parish News

Plans are shaping up for a special year ahead for St Anne's, with a launch and blessing of the grounds and re-constructed cross featuring in our Easter celebrations, so  please consider your holiday plans and stick around the weekend of 30 March - 2 April 2018,  There will be a later weekend, probably in September time, where we will have the main celebratory Mass and other events, and once this weekend is confirmed, we will let you know the dates. This Tuesday 16th January there is another meeting at 8.30pm in Roseanna Hall and we would like as many as possible  to come along  to offer their support in whatever way they can in order to ensure that the celebrations go well.

Design a logo for St Anne's church 150th anniversary

posted Nov 10, 2017, 2:49 AM by Bohernabreena Parish Administrator   [ updated Nov 10, 2017, 2:51 AM ]

What inspires you when you think of the church on the hill, serving the community for 150 years? Is it a symbol from the daily life of the church – water, a cross, a candle? Is it people gathering together to celebrate the sacraments, week after week, whatever else is going on? Is it the location of the church, the countryside church on the edge of the city?
There’s lots of scope for design and creativity here, so please do join in and create a logo. All submissions are welcome, and will be displayed in Roseanna Hall in December.
